A third shrine from Castlecomer. This is a good one, located just across the road from the former colliery (you did know there was a colliery in Castlecomer, didn't you?) and dedicated to the miners.

Bennetsbridge, Co. Kilkenny
Today's shrine is from Bennetsbridge, Co. Kilkenny. Unusually, it backs onto a graveyard.
That's the church in the background. |
Aren't the fluttering draperies only gorgeous? The breeze is blowing from the right, it normally blows from the left. |
I am informed that the grotto is built into the ruin of the old church, though looking at the OS map, it looks like it's an ancillary building. |

Danesfort, Co. Kilkenny
Easily the most recent shrine we've seen to date, this one dates from 2009. The shrine is located in the grounds of Danesfort church, behind a wall and screened by bamboo so that it can't be seen from the road.

Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny (2)
Yet more ignorance - we have no idea what the 'Coill Mhuire' referred to here is. The shrine is located near an estate called Marymount, could that be it?
Lovely modern statue though.

Mullinavat, Co. Kilkenny
An unusual shrine on the Main Street of Mullinavat - the grotto has paired waterfalls, which were not working when we saw it.

Ballyouskill, Co. Kilkenny
Last week seemed to turn into Laois Week and this roadside shrine is just across the border in Ballyouskill in the very north of Co. Kilkenny.
The shrine really benefits from its position in the landscape. |

Saint Molin's Well, Mullenakill, Co. Kilkenny
It's the weekend, so we have once again gone off message. This is a holy well dedicated to the memory of Saint Molin, hermit, bishop, and patron saint of the parish.
