Oblate Church, Tyrconnell Road, Inchicore, Dublin 8

We'd heard about the great shrine in the Oblates church. When we found this, we were a little underwhelmed.

She's lovely and all, but it's not a shrine it's a statue.

Then we spotted this:

Again, some lovely pieces, but not a shrine.

We found what we were looking for behind the church.

Marian Avenue, Limerick

Opposite Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, this statue from the first Marian Year is the only one of its kind we've seen.

No flutter in these draperies.

South Circular Road, Limerick

It says Saint Philomena's School, (well, it says St. Philomena's Sch., but I'm making assumptions) but that's clearly herself there in the alcove.

We hesitate to suggest a lick of paint, for fear of the Maynooth treatment.

Ladywell, Ballinakill, Co. Laois

Rrrragghgghhh!!!! I mean, SSSsssssssss!!!
We don't know much about online newspaper article headlines, but we know what we like.

Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny (3)

A third shrine from Castlecomer.  This is a good one, located just across the road from the former colliery (you did know there was a colliery in Castlecomer, didn't you?) and dedicated to the miners.

Saint Catherine of Alexandria Church, Meath Street, Dublin 8

Today's shrine comes from Dublin, just behind the Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria on Meath Street.

Some nice photos by infomatique on flickr.

Ballyfermot, Dublin (2)

A second shrine from Ballyfermot, this one at St Matthew's Church on Blackditch Drive.

Holy wells wanted - we have run out

It should be Sacred Heart Saturday, or Saint Somebody's Well Saturday, but it is time for another jaunt to find and photog such things. In the meantime, here are some entirely unrelated photos of things taken on our previous travels.

You can play 'how well do you know Dublin' and feel smart. Except we cheated, most of them are from (well) outside the canals.

Business as usual resumes on Monday - here's a hint.

Ballyfermot, Dublin

This statue is located on the roundabout outside Our Lady of the Assumption Church on the Ballyfermot Road.
