This Lourdes scene is located on the N71 out of (or into, depending on your perspective) Clonakilty.  The pictures were taken hastily on a horribly mizzly day which I hope accounts for the strangely luminous quality of the statues...

Mullinavat, Co. Kilkenny

An unusual shrine on the Main Street of Mullinavat - the grotto has paired waterfalls, which were not working when we saw it.

Mitchel's Road, Tralee, Co. Kerry

Our first Kerry shrine, and it's from Tralee. Another opportunity to expose the yawning chasms in our limited knowledge  - we know nothing about this one.

Gray Street, The Liberties, Dublin 8

It's Saturday and time to give Mary a well-earned break.  Today we have a statue of the Sacred Heart protected by a lovely wrought iron canopy just off Meath Street in the heart of Dublin's Liberties.

Fassaugh Road, Cabra, Dublin 7

Our second shrine from Cabra.  This one is located on the roundabout on Fassaugh Road.

Ballyouskill, Co. Kilkenny

Last week seemed to turn into Laois Week and this roadside shrine is just across the border in Ballyouskill in the very north of Co. Kilkenny.

The shrine really benefits from its position in the landscape.

Ballinspittle, Co. Cork

Oh yes, that one.  Here is the shrine at Ballinspittle made famous as the 'Moving Statues'.  There's a little article about the phenomenon on Wikipedia, here.

Gardiner Street, Dublin

This little shrine (statue?) will be familiar to many Dubs from its location on Upper Gardiner Street near the junction with Dorset Street.  Does anyone know the history of it?  Did the house have a previous religious use?

Realt na Mara, Bull Wall, Dublin

This extraordinary monument is located at the end of the path on the Bull Wall near Clontarf in Dublin.  You can learn more about the history of the memorial on its own website, here.

Saint Molin's Well, Mullenakill, Co. Kilkenny

It's the weekend, so we have once again gone off message. This is a holy well dedicated to the memory of Saint Molin, hermit, bishop, and patron saint of the parish.

Saint Fintan's Terrace, Durrow, Co. Laois

It appears to be Laois week here on marianireland.com, today's shrine comes from Durrow.

No date plaque on this one - wonder when it was built?

Market Square, Portlaoise, Co. Laois

The statue was erected on the site of the town hall, which burnt down in 1945.

Well maintained nicely detailed ironwork.

Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick

Another shrine from Co. Limerick - this one a grotto in the grounds of the Church of the Assumption on the Main Street.

The coursed dressed stone is unusual.

I wonder is the grotto the same date as the church (1966-68).
Of course, it could be from either of the Marian years. There's no mention on the otherwise very informative http://www.limerickdioceseheritage.org.

Croagh, Co. Limerick

A roadside shrine in Croagh, just off the N21.

 

Clareen, Co. Offaly

It's Saturday so it's time for a non-Marian shrine.  This is not a Sacred Heart or a Joseph and Child but, having found it, we just had to share it.  This is St Kieran's rag bush outside of Clareen in Co. Offaly.

Rathkeale, Co. Limerick

A roadside shrine on the outskirts of Rathkeale town.

Skibbereen, Co. Cork

This shrine is located at the junction of Mill Road and Cork Road on the edge of Skibbereen.
