St Mary's Church, Mill Street, Maynooth, Co. Kildare

Situated at a T-Junction in Maynooth, this statue (shrine?) overlooks the street.

A shrine which looks like a statue from the street.

The flowers are only gorgeous.

Saint Bernadette with her shoes off and a bundle of firewood.

Google maps says Mill Street, Ordinance Survey Ireland says Mill Street (Bridge Street), and the parish website gives the address as Main Street.

Danesfort, Co. Kilkenny

Easily the most recent shrine we've seen to date, this one dates from 2009.  The shrine is located in the grounds of Danesfort church, behind a wall and screened by bamboo so that it can't be seen from the road.

Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny (2)

Yet more ignorance - we have no idea what the 'Coill Mhuire' referred to here is.  The shrine is located near an estate called Marymount, could that be it?

Lovely modern statue though.

Bandon, County Cork

This shrine, located on Chapel St in Bandon, has possibly the most signage we've ever seen.

Saturday 2 July 2011

Abbeyleix, Co. Laois

It's Saturday and so time for a Sacred Heart.  Today's comes from the Church of the Most Holy Rosary in the pretty estate town of Abbeyleix.

If you ever find yourself in Abbeyleix, we particularly recommend Morrissey's pub - a proper grocers-cum-pub with a warren of snugs.  The staff wear white coats. What more do you need to know?

Kilshenane, Listowel, Co. Kerry.

On the N69 between Tralee and Listowel, another shrine from the Marian year of 1954.

Effective use of the topography.

Nicely maintained landscaping.
